Why is the complete BOM required, although we only need a partial assembly?
Some customers remove components that are not used, from the BOM. Kuttig Electronic prefers a BOM that contains all components. Components which are not used are marked. There are good reasons for this:
- We link the BOM with the pick and place file via the reference. When a component in the BOM is missing, it will be indicated as an error, and the coordinate is not written in the assembly program. If this component is later used due to a BOM change, the position must be recorded subsequently and manually. This takes time and is prone to errors.
- During the AOI inspection, it is useful to examine a not-used component on absence. For this purpose, it is also necessary to know - in addition to the coordinate - the design of the component.
- And there is one very practical reason: If we find an empty component mounting position on the circuit board, it is important to decide if this is quite correct. In this case it is much easier to find the reference in the BOM with the note "not used", rather than searching for the reference in vain.
